Cymer is the largest supplier of deep ultraviolet light (DUV) and extreme ultraviolet light (EUL) required in photolithography of semiconductor manufacturing process. In 2013, Cymer was acquired by ASML, the Dutch semiconductor equipment manufacturer, as an independent subsidiary. Cymer manufactures key components for the chips in our phones and other smart devices. But when Cymer wanted to reduce its neon gas usage in response to a global slowdown, the company needed more predictive analytics. So Cymer implemented the Denodo Platform.

Smarter Manufacturing

Data was scattered over myriad systems, impeding Cymer’s ability to engage in fine-grained data management and predictive analytics. In addition, it seemed prohibitively time-consuming and costly to move the data. So Cymer leveraged the Denodo Platform to establish a logical data warehouse above the company’s disparate data sources.

The logical data warehouse uses data virtualization to connect data marts, an operational data store, and a big data source, and it delivers the consolidated views across a wide range of applications. Cymer has reduced its neon gas usage beyond expectations, while also keeping its machines running at optimal capacity and reducing its operating expenses.
